Message Two The Development of the Golden Lampstand— for the Rebuilding of the Temple
I. The lampstand in Zechariah for the rebuilding of the temple (Zech. 4:2-3) signifies Israel as God’s testimony and emphasizes the consummated Spirit of the Triune God (v. 6) shining as seven lamps:
A. The seven lamps of the lampstands are the seven eyes of Jehovah (Zech. 4:10), the seven Spirits of God—Rev. 4:5:
1. The seven Spirits indicate that in the intensified function and work of God’s operation, God’s Spirit is sevenfold intensified.
2. The seven Spirits as seven lamps are for enlightening, exposing, judging, and burning to carry out God’s administration.
B. The seven eyes of Jehovah are the seven eyes of Christ, the Stone-Savior for God’s building—Zech. 3:9:
1. Christ as the building stone was engraved, dealt with, by God on the cross for the iniquity of God’s people (John 1:29); hence, He is the Stone-Savior with seven eyes.
2. The seven eyes on the stone, the seven eyes of the redeeming Lamb, are for observing and searching and also for infusing and transfusing all that the Lamb is to complete God’s building.
II. Zechariah portrays the lampstand as God’s testimony taking the sevenfold intensified Spirit of God as its bountiful supply—Zech. 4:2-3, 11-14:
A. For the shining of God’s testimony there must be the burning, and in order for there to be the burning, there must be the supply of olive oil (denoting the Spirit) from the olive trees.
B. The two olive trees on the two sides of the lampstand are the two sons of oil, referring to Joshua and Zerubbabel in the rebuilding of the holy temple (Zech. 3:1; 4:6) and also to the two witnesses at the end of this age (Rev. 11:3-12).
C. The two olive trees are also called two olive branches (Zech. 4:12), indicating that we, the believers, are branches of Christ, the unique olive tree (cf. Rom. 11:17), and that in Christ we supply others with the sevenfold intensified Spirit.
III. These four—the lampstand, Jehovah, the Lamb, and the stone—are one for the accomplishing of God’s building:
A. The seven lamps of the lampstand being the seven eyes of Jehovah (Zech. 4:2, 10) indicates that the lampstand is Jehovah; the seven eyes of Jehovah being the seven eyes of the Lamb (Rev. 5:6) indicates that Jehovah is the Lamb; the seven eyes of the Lamb being the seven eyes on the stone (Zech. 3:9) indicates that the Lamb is the stone.
B. The golden lampstand denotes the Triune God; Jehovah refers to the Triune God coming to have contact with man; the Lamb is for the taking away of sin; and the stone is for the building. Gold denotes divinity; stone denotes humanity, implying transformation. Hence, this denotes that the Triune God has been processed for the completion of God’s building.
C. For God’s building, Christ is not only the foundation stone (Isa. 28:16; 1 Cor. 3:11) but also the cornerstone (Eph. 2:20; 1 Pet. 2:6); eventually, He is the topstone of grace—Zech. 4:7:
1. The topstone of grace indicates that Christ is grace from God to us (John 1:14) to be the covering of God’s building.
2. The topstone is the stone which was engraved by God the Father and upon which are seven eyes (denoting the seven Spirits); this implies the Divine Trinity (cf. 2 Cor. 13:14) for the completion of God’s building.
