Message Eleven One Work
Scripture Reading: John 4:34; 17:4; 2 Cor. 6:1a; 1 Cor. 3:9a; Mark 16:20; Acts 13:2; 1 Cor. 15:58; 16:10
I. In His ministry on earth, the Lord Jesus did the work which the Father gave Him to do—John 17:4:
A. The Lord was one with the Father—John 10:30.
B. The Lord did not do anything from Himself—John 5:19.
C. The Lord worked with the Father—John 14:10b; 5:17, 19.
D. The Lord worked in the name of the Father—John 10:25.
E. The Lord did not seek His own will—John 5:30b.
F. The Lord did not speak His own word—John 14:24; 7:16-17.
G. The Lord did not seek His own glory—John 7:18.
II. We are God's fellow workers, we should do only one work—the work of the Lord—1 Cor. 15:58; 16:10:
A. God is a worker; while the ministers of Christ, God's fellow workers, are working, He too is working—John 5:17; 1 Cor. 3:9a.
B. The apostles not only were commissioned by God with their ministry but also were working together with Him; they were God's co-workers—2 Cor. 6:1a.
C. What a privilege and glory that men can be God's fellow workers, working together with God!
III. As God's fellow workers, we should do only one work—the work of the Lord—1 Cor. 15:58; 16:10:
A. Even though Paul and Peter worked in different regions, they did not carry out two works; instead, they had only one work.
B. There should not be several works in the Lord's recovery.
C. All the co-workers in all regions should do the same one work universally for the Body of Christ.
D. "We are here for the Lord's recovery. I am not doing my own work, and you are not doing your own work. We all are bearing one testimony" (Elders' Training, Book 3: The Way to Carry Out the Vision, p. 127).
E. "We are burdened to carry out the Lord's recovery for His unique Body to bear His unique testimony" (Elders' Training, Book 4: Other Crucial Matters concerning the Practice of the Lord's Recovery, p. 38).
IV. The regions of the work should not divide the churches:
A. In the New Testament, for the apostles' work, there were only two regions:
1. One was the Jewish world, and the other was the Gentile world—Gal. 2:9.
2. In these two regions there were no sub-regions.
3. Concerning the work, the New Testament does not have the consideration of geographical regions.
4. The two regions in Paul's time never divided the churches.
B. To bear a regional flavor is not scriptural, because all the members of the Body of Christ should bear the same flavor.
C. "I really treasure the Lord's one move through the one ministry to produce the one Body of Christ to bear the one testimony of Jesus, which is of God's New Testament economy" (Elders' Training, Book 4: Other Crucial Matters concerning the Practice of the Lord's Recovery, p. 38).
V. The Body of Christ is the center, the reality, and the ultimate goal of God's eternal economy, consummating in the New Jerusalem—Eph. 4:16; Rev. 3:12; 21:2, 10:
A. "I would like to say an intimate word in fellowship, especially to the co-workers and elders among us. Do not forget that whatever you do in your locality or universally for other countries should be done in a full realization that you are building up the Body of Christ" (The Practical Way to Live a Life according to the High Peak of the Divine Revelation in the Holy Scriptures, p. 57).
B. "Dear co-workers and dear elders, do you have the assurance that what you are doing in your locality is building up the center and reality of the economy of God, and is building up something that can attain to the final goal of God's eternal economy?" (p. 58).
C. "You must have the assurance that, wherever you are and whatever you do, you are building up the center, the reality, and the goal of the eternal economy of God, which will attain the New Jerusalem" (pp. 58-59).
