Message Three The New Jerusalem
Scripture Reading: Rev. 21:2-3, 9-23; 22:1-5
I. According to the entire revelation of the New Testament, the unique goal of the Christian work should be the New Jerusalem, which is the ultimate goal of God's eternal economy—Rev. 21:2:
A. The degradation of the church is mainly due to the fact that nearly all the Christian workers have been distracted to take many things other than the New Jerusalem as their goal.
B. Hence, under the degradation of the church, to be overcomers answering the Lord's call, we need to overcome not only the negative things but even more the positive things which replace the New Jerusalem as the goal.
II. The New Jerusalem is the greatest and ultimate sign in the Scriptures—Rev. 1:1; 21:2-3, 9-10, 22:
A. It signifies an organic constitution of the processed Triune God mingled with the regenerated, transformed, and glorified tripartite elect.
B. It signifies the universal, enlarged, divine-human incorporation of the consummated God with the regenerated believers.
III. What is unveiled in the vision of this unique city should be the model of what we are and how we work:
A. We need to live out and work out the reality of the gold base of the New Jerusalem for its building—Rev. 21:18b, 21; 22:1:
1. We need to partake of and do everything according to the divine nature of God as our pathway to be under the ruling of God's golden administration—2 Pet. 1:4.
2. We need to help the saints to partake of, to participate in, and enjoy the divine nature so that they may become a part of the New Jerusalem, which, as a mountain of gold, is the ultimate, unique, and eternal golden lampstand—Rev. 21:18, 23; 22:5.
B. We need to live out and work out the reality of the pearl gates of the New Jerusalem for its entry—21:12-13, 21a:
1. We need to daily experience the death of Christ subjectively by the power of Christ's resurrection that we may be conformed to the death of Christ—Phil. 3:10; 1 Cor. 15:31b; Rom. 8:13; Gal. 5:24-25.
2. We need to testify that the three of the Triune God—signified by the three gates on each side of the city—work together to bring people into the city—Matt. 28:19; Luke 15:1-32.
C. We need to live out and work out the reality of the wall of the New Jerusalem—Rev. 21:11, 18a; 4:3a:
1. We need to express the Triune God embodied in Christ in our living, bearing His appearance—Phil. 1:20-21a.
2. We must put out the pure truth from the Word to protect the interests of the riches of God's divinity on the earth and the attainments of His consummation—1 Cor. 15:12; 1 John 2:22.
D. We need to live out and work out the reality of the foundations of the New Jerusalem—Rev. 21:14:
1. We need to live and have our being by the grace of God—1 Cor. 15:10; Rev. 22:21.
2. We need to be one with the faithful God to be faithful stewards of God's eternal economy—1 Cor. 4:1-2; 7:25.
E. We need to live out and work out the reality of the throne of the New Jerusalem—Rev. 22:1:
1. We need to enthrone the Triune God in the center of our being that we may be under the ruling of the divine life to reign in life—Rom. 11:33-36; 5:17, 21.
2. We need to honor God as the source, origin, Initiator, Planner, Designer, and Arranger of all our work and turn people from the authority of Satan to God—Rom. 11:36; Acts 26:18.
F. We need to live out and work out the reality of the temple of the New Jerusalem—Rev. 21:22:
1. We need to take the redeeming God as our dwelling place, our palace, in which we as the co-kings dwell with our Father-King as the divine, royal family—John 15:5; Rev. 22:5b; cf. Psa. 90:1.
2. We need to build with the Triune God as the precious materials, not marring or destroying God's temple with worthless materials, which are the product of the believers' natural man together with what they have collected from their background—1 Cor. 3:12, 17.
G. We need to live out and work out the reality of the light of the New Jerusalem—Rev. 21:23; 22:5:
1. We need to walk in God as the divine light in Christ the Lamb as the lamp to be under His continual illumination—John 8:12; 1 John 1:5-7.
2. We need to be diffusers of the divine light, shining as luminaries in the world by holding forth the word of life—Phil. 2:15; Matt. 5:15-16; Acts 26:18; Eph. 3:9.
H. We need to live out and work out the reality of the processed and consummated Triune God as the supply of the New Jerusalem—Rev. 22:1-2, 5:
1. We need to walk in God the Father as the light of life, eat Christ the Son as the tree of life, and drink God the Spirit as the river of life to live as men of life—1 John 1:5; John 6:57; 1 Cor. 12:13.
2. We need to nourish the believers with spiritual food and drink, blessing them with the processed and consummated Triune God—1 Cor. 3:2; 10:3-4; Heb. 5:12-14; 2 Cor. 13:14.
